our top 6 family friendly places to eat | Geelong, Surf Coast & surrounds

Venturing out to a café or restaurant with little one’s needs to be somewhere with space, family friendly, and have some form of entertainment for the kids. We get it! Take a look at these suggestions from fini. the label for the perfect family friendly eateries in Geelong, Surf Coast & surrounds.

+ The Ocean Grove Hotel

Pack a fini. sun hat style that features a long back brim for ultimate sun protection ( floppy hat or sailor hat ) and head to the Ocean Grove Hotel,  'OGH' as it is known to the locals.  Enjoy a delicious meal from the pub menu in their expansive outdoor area while listening to live music and watching your little one’s climb the play fort & slip down the side.

The beautiful big tree in the outdoor space, perfect for climbing, is sure to add some old school fun and smiles.

+ White House, Barwon Heads

Where you no longer have to dream of sipping one of the best coffee’s your taste buds will experience and downing culinary delights while your little ones are entertained. Here it is reality!  Pop on your fini. straw hat and immerse yourself in the style of this wonderfully converted old fire station. With a cubby house for imaginary play and a chalkboard as big as their giant milkshakes, this is our favourite spot to visit after a day at the Barwon Heads River or for a special family gathering.

+ Blackman’s Brewery (3 locations)

Location is a choice for this one! Torquay, Ocean Grove or Geelong (Grovedale), take your pick.

Today we talk about the Geelong venue. All you need to do is order some super fresh beer, select your bite to eat from the tuck truck on site, and settle in to enjoy a game of table tennis with the family, or simply sit back and have some adult conversation while the children explore the indoor sandpit and cubby house right in front of your eyes.

Be sure to pop on your fini. straw boater hat and keep on trend with this laid-back venue.

+ Hey Porter Café, Highton

Be greeted with smiles from Steph as she treats you in her hidden local treasure. Kids menu (tick), outdoor space where children are welcome (tick), enough toys plus a toy kitchen to keep the kids amused (tick).

We have been visiting this cafe almost weekly as a family for 6 years, and look forward to many more years to come.

Did I mention that they are a licenced venue! Pop your toddler’s sun hat on, and relax while you sip on a wine.

+ The Pavilion, Eastern Beach

Prepare to be indulged by the magic of Geelong’s Eastern Beach.

The art deco venue developed in 1927 will have you feeling like you have stepped into a movie. The outdoor dining space allows you to sit and watch the world go by, while the music playing through the speakers puts a bounce into your day. The French Toast is a must have!

After you have filled your belly, pop a fini. swim hat on your little one and relax on the grass as they jump around the foreshore playground and follow it off with a splash at the kids swimming enclosure. Or better yet, experience the local tradition of packing a large piece of cardboard and sliding down the big grassed hills.

There is even a Thomas the Tank Engine themed train tour providing 20 minutes of beachfront travels.

+ Jumpz Anglesea

Sun, fresh air, trampolines, live music, fully licenced kiosk including pizzas… this is a family activity win.

Our sun hat choice for Jumpz is the fini. bucket hat, where the chin strap toggle will keep the hat in place on your little jumping jelly bean.

Located within the Great Ocean Road Resort, this venue is a perfect road trip stop or destination to be visited on its own.

Hint; we love combining our visits to Anglesea with a wander of the local Anglesea Riverbank Market, and always purchase some of the mouth-watering cannoli from Laneway 73 café to take home.
